Portugal is one of those European countries where, there is a wild celebration of the New Year's Eve. Portugal on the Iberian Peninsula, is the westernmost country of the mainland Europe. The New Year's Eve in Portugal is a major event in the country's social calendar.1st January is an official holiday in Portugal. The evening before 1st January is celebrated with great passion and gusto. The main cities of the country see a plethora of entertaining events and parties seem to be the order of the day. The many hotels, clubs and restaurants have innumerable events for the people. The places are chock-a-block with people and everybody seems hell bent on enjoying themselves. The basic tenor of the parties is the same, there is a lot of music, there is a lot of dancing and there is a lot of drinking.

The Portuguese celebration of the New Year's Eve is usually done with wild abandon.Portugal has some beautiful tourist attractions. Douro River cruises must be mentioned in this respect. The Douro River is flanked by two cities of Portugal, Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto. The luxury liners have many attractions on board and a delectable array of food await the passengers. There is a wide selection of some of Portugal's finest wines.
